Comments
Skiing down from Scotties West, we encountered wind blasted snow (as expected). About 700 ft down off the ridge, the slope steepens and we entered a slight concavity. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a gully, but it was a depression. I triggered a small slide by cutting a small dense windslab. The slide moved slowly, but ran about 100 ft. While the debris couldn't have buried a person in this case, a slide like this could carry you someplace you wouldn't want to be. Glad no one was caught, and definitely gave me a heads up about the possibility of windslabs well off of ridges.
