Comments
After skiing a run in days draw our party decided to ski benson and hedges as our exit run. We noted wind slabs that were sensitive on the northeast facing slopes on the traverse from the top of days draw to the entrance of the couloir, as well as a recent crown line at the top of the line. A short convective snow shower came along with gusty west winds around this time, actively loading slopes.
I was the first one in our party of 3 to ski the line, and immediately noticed that the new snow was slabby. About halfway down the line I triggered a wind slab that broke behind me. I was skiing quite fast and regularly checking over my shoulder so quickly cut left out of its path and stopped to let the avalanche pass by. Not enough debris to bury a person but wouldn't have been fun to get caught in. The slide ran the remainder of the couloir and about 100 feet down the apron. The second skier also triggered a small wind pocket on his descent.
