Well, ladies and gentlemen, cold smoke is back. Unfortunately, in many places it's falling on bare ground, rocks, and deadfall.
We came across what looked like a storm slab/wind slab today. Seemed to be a natural avalanche, but I don't 100% recall. On the north side of some rocks was a small D1 slide. Seemed to be wind loaded because snow depth was far higher near the crown than anywhere else. Bed was facets.
IMHO, biggest danger is early season hazard that could be exacerbated by a small slide.
Rate of snowfall >1"/hr based on the roof of my car.
