Comments
Went for a walk up Mill D South this morning and found a few avalanches along with cracking/collapsing on NE-E facing slopes at mid and upper elevations. Photo 1 shows a slide just below the ridgeline in George's Bowl on an E facing upper elevtaion slope. It likely occured sometime last night or early this morning from the WSW winds loading the slope, and failed on facets at the ground which exposed bare rock in some places. Photo 2 shows a smaller slide on an E facing mid elevation slope, a similar slide was also observed on a NE facing slope at same elevation. Neither of these slides would have been a fun ride due to the shallow snowpack, not to mention the trees within the runnout zone in photo 1. While the storm from last Friday is over, the wind is still moving snow around and loading slopes with substantial weight.
Forecaster Comments: Timing and trigger uncertain on this avalanche.
